Job Description
Head of Bus Technology Unit overseeing maintenance and staffing of 1,600 buses and 700 employees. Leading strategic developments in urban public transport with a focus on efficiency and innovation.
Responsibilities:
- You report directly to the Executive Board and assume overall responsibility for the maintenance and repair of approximately 1,600 buses (diesel and electric) and around 700 employees across six depots.
- Your area of responsibility includes the maintenance of the bus fleet as well as centralized vehicle control.
- You ensure that our capital remains mobile around the clock — with a clear focus on stability, effectiveness and efficiency in Berlin's public transport system.
- At the same time, you actively shape the further development of the business unit and the upcoming change and transformation processes.
- You ensure the technical reliability and availability of the vehicle fleet through a high-performance and smoothly running workshop operation.
- You work with internal and external stakeholders to shape the decarbonization of the bus fleet and the required infrastructure.
- You are responsible for the independent and economical management of the business unit in decisions regarding personnel, materials, external services and infrastructure.
- You further develop your business unit on a technical level and ensure the implementation of the necessary innovative vehicle projects and vehicle procurements.
- You work constructively and in partnership with our employee representatives.
Requirements:
- Technically proficient and committed leader with relevant professional and extensive leadership experience in senior strategic and operational roles, and demonstrable success in a similar position.
- Completed academic degree (Master/Diploma) in a relevant discipline (e.g., Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Engineering, etc.).
- Alternatively: equivalent knowledge and skills acquired through several years of professional experience.
- Willingness to undergo an extended security screening (Ü2) according to the Berlin Security Screening Act (BSÜG) is a required prerequisite.
- Additionally, we welcome a leader experienced in accompanying change and transformation processes: creative and courageous, with an integrative and appreciative working style and a high level of motivational and inspirational ability.
- Experience in managing complex corporate structures and in cooperating with employee representatives, together with the ability to quickly and confidently grasp complex issues and connections, and strategic, entrepreneurial and innovative thinking and acting.
- Strong affinity for public transport and a broad understanding of the relevant strategic issues of a municipal service provider, clear visions for urban and rural transport, and a solid technical affinity.
- Confident stakeholder communication, decisiveness, excellent persuasion and communication skills, a commanding presence, conflict-management ability and intercultural competence.
