Job Description
Accountant managing revenue recognition, reconciliations, commissions, and month-end close for SmartBug Media, a HubSpot marketing agency. Supporting scalable financial reporting across three divisions.
Responsibilities:
- Review month-end close reconciliations, journal entries, and non-close tasks prepared by external offshore/onshore bookkeeping team
- Review deal flow, closed contracts, and customer agreements for invoicing and accounting accuracy
- Ensure high-accuracy accounting reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and GL integrity
- Architect the Chart of Accounts and financial structures to support scalable reporting
- Serve as the primary cross-functional point of contact for internal team members
- Foster accountability and continuous improvement within accounting functions
- Resolve employee friction points and maintain positive cross-functional relationships
- Drive the monthly financial close process within 5 business days
- Calculate and reconcile monthly sales commissions
- Oversee AP preparation, vendor invoices, and tax clearing account reconciliations
- Review and approve employee expense reports for policy compliance
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5–7 years of extensive, hands-on finance and accounting experience
- Experience with intercompany eliminations, currency FX gains/losses, and foreign currency revaluations
- 3 years of experience in a managing/oversight role
- Proven track record managing direct reports or external vendors/offshore teams
- Expert-level knowledge of QuickBooks Online (QBO)
- Proficiency in Excel, G-Sheets (GoogleSuite), and Numeric, or similar tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Analytical mindset
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote-first environment
