Job Description
Application Engineer developing and supporting moderately complex systems for AAA’s membership, insurance, travel, and financial services. Creating specifications, prototypes, documentation, estimates, and project reports.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, develop, implement, and/or support moderately complex new or revised processes or systems
- Develop system specifications, prototypes, and documentation, including structure charts, screen designs, data flow diagrams, file layouts, report layouts, and job run descriptions
- Complete assigned deliverables on time and to required quality standards
- Achieve service level objectives
- Understand user requirements and prepare activity and progress reports for project tasks
- Develop project-task estimates
- Identify potential project impacts and recommend alternative solutions
- Work as a team member on application engineering activities
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent level of work experience
- Experience designing, developing, implementing, or supporting moderately complex information systems
- Experience identifying, analyzing, and resolving business problems
- Experience building or supporting mainframe, distributed systems, or web-based systems
- Knowledge of mainframe, distributed, and/or web-based system design and development
- Knowledge of programming languages such as COBOL II and Java
- Knowledge of operating systems such as MVS, Windows XP, and UNIX
- Knowledge of database management systems such as IMS DB, DB2, Oracle, and SQL Server
- Knowledge of online communication systems such as IMS DC and CICS
- Knowledge of system development tools including Endevor, IMS Expert, Xpediter, SQA Team Test, Eclipse, and Java
- Knowledge of PC fundamental tools including MS Office
- Knowledge of systems operation practices
- Knowledge of security and control procedures
- Knowledge of structured systems analysis, design, programming, and testing
- Knowledge of iterative and rapid programming concepts
- Knowledge of use-case requirements analysis
- Preferred: database design and/or modeling
- Preferred: user interface design
- Preferred: web applications or mainframe
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position
