Job Description
Application Engineer supporting 3M’s Personal Safety portfolio across New Zealand. Conducting workplace assessments, technical evaluations, training, troubleshooting, and product commercialization.
Responsibilities:
- Drive growth through customer collaboration, new application development, and new product commercialization
- Develop value propositions for effective commercialization
- Coordinate and lead customer field trials and evaluate local competition and marketing practices
- Develop and replicate product/market applications using e-tools
- Provide customer-facing technical and application engineering support across the Personal Safety Division portfolio in New Zealand
- Conduct customer visits, workplace assessments, application evaluations, product demonstrations, field trials, and performance evaluations
- Provide product selection, application, and technical recommendations
- Troubleshoot technical issues and support product implementation
- Partner with Sales and Marketing on strategic customer opportunities, major account conversions, specifications, and channel partner development
- Capture customer insights, market intelligence, unmet needs, and application feedback
- Support product evaluations, validation, NPI, commercialization, product transitions, changes, and launch readiness
- Deliver customer, distributor, and internal sales training, seminars, and workshops
- Support technical complaint investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and customer communication
- Support product certification, compliance activities, and applicable standards and requirements
- Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Portfolio Management, R&D, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Asia Application Engineering
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or a related technical discipline
- Relevant experience in Application Engineering, Technical Service, Industrial Safety, PPE or a related technical field
- Experience in customer-facing technical roles and working with distributors/channel partners
- Exposure to product evaluations, NPI, technical training and complaint resolution
- Knowledge of relevant PPE standards and regulatory requirements is desirable
- Strong application engineering and technical problem-solving capability
- Customer-centric approach with strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to understand workplace hazards and recommend appropriate technical solutions
- Broad understanding of PPE and Personal Safety applications
- Ability to influence and collaborate across Sales, Marketing, R&D, Quality and Regulatory teams
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently across a geographically diverse customer base
