Job Description
Associate Attorney litigating consumer-credit cases for PRA Group, a global debt-recovery company. Preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and representing the company in Texas proceedings.
Responsibilities:
- Represent the Company in litigation on consumer accounts and other legal proceedings involving the Company and its affiliates
- Prepare and file legal documents, discovery materials, and pleadings
- Provide guidance to the Company’s attorneys in support of litigation activities
- Litigate on behalf of the Company in respective state courts where licensed to practice, utilizing case management software
- Represent the Company and its affiliates in courts of law
- Collect facts and evidence, try cases, and perform other litigation-related tasks
- Manage cases accurately and timely by preparing legal documents, developing strategies, and making arguments with defendants, opposing counsel, and court personnel
- Represent the Company at scheduling conferences, mediations, settlement conferences, depositions, hearings, and trials
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor Degree Required
- Active member of the bar in Texas
- 2+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent
- Prior litigation experience preparing and drafting pleadings, participating in all phases of the discovery process and handling of trials required
- Familiarity with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Truth-In-Lending Act, Equal Credit Opportunity Act, and other federal and state laws and regulations related to consumer credit and collections
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Effective organizational, time-management and interpersonal skills and high attention to detail
- Ability to analyze multiple issues and provide sound business judgment
- Ability to research, read, analyze, and interpret statutes, case law, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
- Ability to provide well researched, accurate, and practical legal advice in a timely manner
- Ability to develop, improve, and standardize procedures
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Must not require now or in the future sponsorship for employment visa status
