Job Description

Associate Attorney defending complex civil litigation for nationally recognized Segal McCambridge. Managing cases, depositions, motions, discovery, and trial preparation across New England.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a diverse defense caseload involving general liability, product liability, asbestos defense, tobacco defense, and other complex civil litigation
  • Draft pleadings, discovery, dispositive motions, and other substantive legal documents
  • Conduct and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses
  • Manage discovery and develop case strategy
  • Attend court conferences, hearings, mediations, and settlement negotiations
  • Communicate directly with clients, insurers, and opposing counsel
  • Assist with trial preparation and participate in trial as needed
  • Manage cases independently while collaborating with experienced trial attorneys and the broader Segal McCambridge team
  • Gain hands-on courtroom experience and receive mentorship from experienced trial attorneys

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in defense litigation
  • Experience ideally in general liability, toxic tort, asbestos, tobacco, product liability, or related civil defense litigation
  • Admission to practice in Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island required
  • Candidates admitted in two or more of these jurisdictions are strongly preferred
  • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to handle motion practice, depositions, discovery, and client communications
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage cases and responsibilities with increasing independence
  • Team-oriented mindset with a proactive, client-focused approach
