Job Description
Associate Attorney litigating debt collection matters for a creditor’s rights law firm. Managing caseloads, court proceedings, pleadings, and legal risk analysis remotely.
Responsibilities:
- Attend court hearings
- Sign pleadings and settle cases
- Handle all aspects of litigation and debt collection matters
- Review correspondence, files, and answers
- Prepare discovery and dispositive motions
- Prepare for and conduct trials
- Represent clients in pre-suit and post-judgment matters
- Provide analysis and advice on legal and regulatory risks
- Monitor changes in state and local rules
- Independently manage a caseload
- Develop litigation strategies complying with state and federal laws, regulations, and compliance standards
- Perform additional attorney tasks as assigned
Requirements:
- Admission to the Iowa Bar is required
- Licensed to practice law in Nebraska
- Background in civil litigation
- Experience attending court proceedings
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws
- Ability to analyze case law and provide recommendations
- Ability to draft legal pleadings, motions, discovery, stipulations, reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents
- Familiarity with state and federal consumer laws
- Ability to manage an independent caseload
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and organize high volumes of information
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment
- Knowledge of Bankruptcy Law, Foreclosure Law, FDCPA, FCRA, or TCPA is a plus
- Experience in collection law and/or significant courtroom experience is a plus
- Ability to work remotely from 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday with flexibility to meet business needs
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and access and navigate organizational facilities
