Job Description

Backend Engineer building Mem0’s AI-agent memory platform with Python, REST APIs, databases, and AWS. Operating reliable production services for enterprise customers and open-source developers.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and ship REST APIs, including contracts, versioning, authentication, rate limits, migrations, and documentation
  • Model data and schemas across relational and graph databases, enforcing integrity and performance
  • Debug customer issues end to end using logs, metrics, and traces; reproduce issues, fix them, and create preventative guardrails
  • Optimize performance using SQL tuning, EXPLAIN/ANALYZE, indexes, partitioning, pagination, and caching such as Redis
  • Build Python services using async programming where appropriate, with FastAPI, Django/DRF, or Flask
  • Develop background jobs, queues, and schedulers
  • Containerize services with Docker and deploy on Kubernetes/EKS
  • Operate services using AWS primitives including EC2, RDS/Aurora, S3, and IAM
  • Instrument systems with custom metrics, structured logging, and tracing
  • Set SLOs and alerts using CloudWatch, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry
  • Collaborate with frontend and research teams to scope APIs and deliver production features
  • Report directly to Deshraj Yadav, Co-founder and CTO
  • Work closely with the engineering team in San Francisco

Requirements:

  • 5+ years building backend systems and shipping REST APIs to production
  • Strong Python fundamentals
  • Experience with async programming and a major web framework (FastAPI/Django/Flask)
  • Solid data modeling and SQL skills
  • Hands-on experience with query tuning and performance debugging in Postgres/MySQL
  • Experience with graph databases (e.g. Neo4j or Amazon Neptune)
  • Comfortable running services on AWS with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated root-cause analysis and ownership from incident to prevention
  • Clear communication and effective collaboration with frontend, research, and customers
  • GraphQL/gRPC experience is nice to have
  • Event-driven systems (SNS/SQS/Kafka) and background workers (Celery/RQ) experience is nice to have
  • Caching, rate limiting, multi-tenancy, and feature-flag strategy experience is nice to have
  • Security and privacy best practices experience is nice to have
  • Deep observability experience is nice to have
  • Prior work with search/retrieval or memory systems is nice to have
  • On-call experience and running blameless postmortems is nice to have
  • Prior time at an early-stage startup is nice to have
