Job Description

CAD Designer creating AutoCAD Civil 3D electrical designs for utility-scale BESS projects. Supporting RRC’s renewable-energy engineering work across the United States.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams to create precise electrical engineering designs for utility-scale BESS projects
  • Create detailed 2-D and 3-D designs primarily using AutoCAD Civil 3-D
  • Prepare drawings according to project specifications and client requirements
  • Create site plans, single line diagrams, cable schedules, and equipment elevation drawings for BESS electrical drawing packages
  • Create site model layouts in AutoCAD C3D using geolocated electrical base files
  • Coordinate with internal and external multidisciplinary groups and reference their work
  • Ensure project drawings adhere to RRC standards, industry regulations, codes, and best practices
  • Review equipment specification sheets and determine BESS electrical system requirements
  • Participate in improving BESS team products, department standards, best practices, SOPs, and documentation
  • Participate in project meetings and provide progress reports to managers, engineers, clients, and stakeholders
  • Maintain high ethical and professional standards and nurture client relationships
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or similar engineering technology, or related degree, or equivalent professional experience
  • 4+ years of engineering design using AutoCAD C3D, or other relevant experience
  • Physical design experience required
  • Excellent spatial awareness and ability to visualize 3-D reality while designing often in 2-D space
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD required
  • Preferred experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Proficient understanding and use of geographic systems and/or GIS software
  • Knowledge of low to medium voltage electrical power systems required
  • Strong technical verbal communication and technical writing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in collaborative online meetings and communications using Microsoft Teams and Outlook for e-mail
  • Ability to read and understand technical literature and specification sheets
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans, dimensioned drawings, single line diagrams, and other engineering details
  • Knowledge of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) preferred
  • Knowledge of PV (Solar), wind power, and renewable energy electrical systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of civil design grading, roads and drainage, structural steel and concrete design, installation of PVC electrical conduit, and related construction practices is a plus
  • Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States upon hire
