Job Description
Remote Profee Cardiology Medical Coder supporting IKS Health’s outpatient and physician-record coding services. Assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, abstracting records, and mentoring coding staff.
Responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify pertinent diagnoses and procedures related to the patient's healthcare encounter
- Abstract appropriate information from medical records according to client guidelines
- Clarify ambiguous or conflicting documentation with physicians using client-provided guidelines
- Mentor training coders and/or new hires through education and training
- Maintain current knowledge of Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting
- Provide effective and professional communication
- Participate in industry forums and support coding education within the team
- Assign diagnostic and procedural codes after thorough medical-record review using ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT systems
Requirements:
- CPC certification required
- Experience with Epic/3M 360
- Minimum 3 years of professional fee cardiac coding experience
- Ability to code Clinic E&M and CPTs
- Ability to code echocardiograms, remote monitoring, and EKGs
- Observation and inpatient chart coding is a bonus
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes
- Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines
- Knowledge of reimbursement systems and federal, state, and payer-specific documentation, coding, and billing regulations and policies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must pass a coding proficiency test
