Job Description
Clinical data abstractor analyzing healthcare records and registries for SSM Health. Ensuring accurate abstraction, validation, discrepancy resolution, and regulatory reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze clinical data, identify trends, and report findings
- Abstract and maintain comprehensive data from clinical records according to clinical and regulatory requirements
- Mitigate definitional issues and resolve chart documentation discrepancies
- Complete timely validation checks to support high interrater reliability
- Disseminate medical-record data accurately according to governing-body rules, algorithms, and protocols
- Adapt to registry and regulatory changes
- Collaborate with internal team members and external vendors to support inter-rater reliability, data accuracy, and timely submission
- Contribute to specialized committee and work-group meetings focused on process improvements and patient outcomes
- Identify process-improvement opportunities, trends, and new processes
- Review and resolve clinical data discrepancies or outliers on completed abstracts
- Communicate performance considerations and improvement opportunities to appropriate parties
- Report findings, opportunities, and trends to management
- Extract facts from medical records using knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
- Complete assigned certifications and exams when required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
- One year of experience in healthcare or a related field
- Detail-oriented
- Self-motivated
- Ability to function well in a team environment
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to reach out with questions
- Critical thinking skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with EPIC
- Experience in database management
- Familiarity with stroke patients
- Background in data abstraction
- Ability to complete required certifications and pass assigned exams
- Ability to work Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
