Job Description
Outpatient coder assigning diagnoses, procedures, and E/M codes for Ovation Healthcare. Supporting independent hospitals’ reimbursement, compliance, and quality reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Assign ICD-10-CM codes for medical record accounts, including diagnoses
- Abstract key data elements required for billing, regulatory agencies, and other databases
- Review records for clinical pertinence and documentation supporting accurate facility-based charges
- Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and appropriately assign diagnoses, procedures, and facility E/M levels
- Review and resolve claim edits for outpatient encounters, including medical necessity and NCCI/CCI edits
- Assist with resolving simple visit coding errors for other outpatient visits
- Interact courteously and professionally with visitors, coworkers, physicians, and hospital personnel
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with hospital policy and legal/industry standards
- Support hospital goals and patient-care approach
- Attend regular training sessions to improve patient and customer communications
- Prioritize and perform varied duties amid changing assignments, priorities, and deadlines
- Impart knowledge of procedures and techniques
- Perform qualitative record analysis in accordance with regulatory standards and coding requirements
- Work with AR teams to resolve issues
Requirements:
- RHIT, RHIA, CEDC, COC, CPC, CCS-P or CCS credentials
- Three or more years of coding experience
- Thorough working knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding systems
- Knowledge of federal/state reimbursement regulations
- Working knowledge of hospital information systems, electronic medical record systems, and encoder
- Working knowledge of standards for chart completion
- Maintains continuing education credits according to AHIMA and/or AAPC requirements based on certification(s)
- Knowledge of CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM guidelines
- Knowledge of medical-legal confidentiality and release-of-information rules and regulations
- Must maintain total confidentiality of patient records
- Comfortable working with AR teams to resolve issues
- Must pass a coding assessment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams
- Ability to multitask and communicate effectively
- Must meet and maintain a 95% quality accuracy rate and productivity standards
- Must have experience working in a remote environment
