Job Description

Corporate Engagement Officer managing partnerships and fundraising strategies for RMI's climate and sustainability initiatives. Driving corporate contributions and engagement with key institutional accounts.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow revenue from a portfolio of current and prospective corporate partners and complex institutional accounts with annual revenue of $500k+ to RMI.
  • Support all aspects of partner relationships, including coordinating conversations, preparing outreach, submitting proposals and reports, and responding to inquiries.
  • Create touch points with corporate partners through meetings with RMI staff, proactive outreach and scheduling, preparation of meeting briefings with strategic goals and background, development of meeting content, and follow-up after meetings.
  • Provide regular updates to Development and Corporate Engagement leadership on partner conversations, pipelines, opportunities, and relationship status.
  • Ensure corporate partners are appropriately acknowledged and featured in RMI reports, stewardship materials, events, and other key communications, where relevant.
  • Support the creation of corporate engagement strategies and cases for support.
  • Understand corporate partners’ sustainability priorities, climate commitments, business context, philanthropic interests, and partnership goals to effectively represent RMI’s work.
  • Identify, qualify, solicit, and steward new corporate prospects capable of making five-, six-, and seven-figure contributions, sponsorships, grants, or other strategic commitments.
  • Provide a high-quality experience for corporate partners and potential partners through education and engagement on RMI’s program portfolio.
  • Travel to meet with corporate partners and prospects where they are, including at U.S. and global conferences, convenings, and partner meetings.
  • Support and lead the development of compelling corporate proposals, partnership concepts, letters of inquiry, pitch materials, stewardship reports, and associated budgets to meet partner deadlines and expectations.
  • Collaborate with program, accounting, finance, legal, and communications teams to ensure timely submissions of proposals, grant applications, partnership materials, and reports.
  • Oversee or support the creation and timely submission of regular stewardship reports to corporate partners, including narrative, impact, and financial reports as needed.
  • Respond to partner requests to resolve edits to proposals, budgets, partnership concepts, scopes of work, and reporting materials.
  • Review proposal budgets and partnership deliverables to ensure alignment with program budgets, partner expectations, and RMI’s internal requirements.
  • Work closely with program teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of RMI’s work and its alignment with corporate partners’ priorities.
  • Prepare briefings, strategic plans, talking points, and communications materials for partner meetings, drawing from the expertise of program teams and senior leadership.
  • Serve as a lead Development or Corporate Engagement point of contact for one to two RMI programs, supporting corporate engagement pipelines, partner strategy, and fundraising materials.
  • Provide guidance and feedback on corporate-facing materials and ensure program representatives have the information needed to engage with corporate partners.
  • Inform the Development and Corporate Engagement teams of major program updates, partner intelligence, market trends, and strategic opportunities on a regular basis.
  • Utilize Salesforce to document moves management, corporate engagement pipelines, relationship history, opportunity stages, revenue projections, and accurate relationship status.
  • Utilize Monday.com or other project management systems to highlight upcoming reporting, proposal, stewardship, or partner engagement deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of partner interactions, next steps, deliverables, commitments, and risks.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-10+ years of experience in nonprofit development, corporate engagement, partnerships, business development, institutional fundraising, sustainability, climate, energy, or relationship management.
  • 5+ years of experience managing corporate, foundation, institutional, or other complex external relationships.
  • Track record of successfully cultivating, soliciting, closing, and stewarding significant corporate, philanthropic, sponsorship, grant, or partnership commitments.
  • Track record of successfully securing at least five-figure contributions, grants, sponsorships, or partnership commitments; experience with six-figure and larger commitments strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing proposal, grant, or partnership development processes involving multiple stakeholders from across an organization.
  • Experience writing successful grant applications, proposals, pitch materials, concept notes, or partnership narratives.
  • Experience working successfully with top-level executives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in the environment, climate, sustainability, science, or energy field strongly desired.
  • Experience with corporate sustainability, climate commitments, philanthropy, or strategic partnerships strongly preferred.
  • International experience desired but not required.
