Job Description
Data Architect designing and building Databricks and Microsoft Fabric lakehouse platforms for Pythian’s data transformation clients. Owning ingestion, governance, modeling, pipelines, and analytics delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end architecture covering ingestion, lakehouse and warehouse layers, transformation, modeling, and delivery to reporting and analytics tools
- Write and deploy pipelines, Spark and SQL transformations, and data models
- Review code written by the rest of the team
- Design lakehouse architectures on Databricks or Fabric, including medallion layering, Delta table design, and the semantic layer
- Select and defend Databricks, Fabric, or a combination based on client workloads, licensing, skills, and cost
- Establish governance and access control using Unity Catalog, Purview, or an equivalent
- Design and build ingestion from databases, SaaS applications, APIs, files, and legacy systems
- Collaborate with clients and data teams to deliver strategic database and analytics services
Requirements:
- Eight or more years in data engineering, with at least three years owning architecture and design decisions
- Proven hands-on delivery designing and building data platforms
- Deep hands-on experience with Databricks or Microsoft Fabric, and working knowledge of the other
- Strong Spark and SQL skills
- Solid Python or an equivalent language used in production data work
- Production experience with Delta Lake, medallion architecture, and lakehouse patterns
- Power BI experience, including semantic model construction and placement
- Solid dimensional and semantic modeling skills
- Working knowledge of data governance, including classification, lineage, cataloging, and access control
- CI/CD, version control, and testing practices applied to data work
- Ability to fulfill requirements necessary to obtain a background check
