Job Description
Data Engineers building scalable Azure data pipelines and analytics solutions for The Hanover insurance organization. Developing governed data platforms, models, and integrations across enterprise teams.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines and ETL workflows
- Develop scalable data models, data structures, and data integrations
- Work with Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Data Lake, and Databricks
- Ensure data quality, governance, security, and compliance
- Partner with business stakeholders, analysts, and data scientists
- Contribute to or lead complex, cross-functional data initiatives
- Improve platform reliability through monitoring, validation, and automation
- Create documentation, runbooks, and data lineage
- Mentor junior engineers in senior-level roles
- Build foundational skills and work alongside experienced engineers at associate level
- Own pipelines, models, and datasets and drive quality, governance, and performance improvements at Data Engineer II level
- Lead complex data initiatives and architectural decisions, design enterprise-scale Azure solutions, establish best practices, and drive reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency at senior level
Requirements:
- Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field
- Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring any sponsorship, now or in the future (Law Permanent Residence or US Citizen)
- Experience with data engineering, ETL/ELT, and data modeling
- Proficiency in SQL and Python (advanced at senior levels)
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure preferred)
- Passion for building high-quality, reliable data solutions
- Azure certifications (DP-203, DP-700) are bonus points
- Databricks / Data Lake experience is a bonus point
- Power BI or analytics experience is a bonus point
- Insurance or claims data knowledge is a bonus point
- Associate Data Engineer: 0–2 years; Data Engineer II: up to 5+ years; Senior Data Engineer: 5+ years
