Job Description
Director leading UBC’s Microsoft platform engineering, enterprise architecture, and AI-enabled solutions. Advancing secure, scalable technology for pharmaceutical development and healthcare outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the Platform Team and oversee development and maintenance of Microsoft-based frameworks in a highly regulated environment
- Build and lead a team focused on in-house software development, platform engineering and AI-enabled capabilities
- Assess enterprise platform components and define a phased roadmap to a modern digital platform
- Advance API gateway, workflow orchestration, capability services, integration, event-driven architecture, data persistence and data warehouse integration
- Explore and integrate AI and machine learning advancements for intelligent platform automation
- Lead adoption of emerging technologies and development methodologies to improve platform performance, scalability and security
- Provide leadership in systems and application delivery, software design and architecture, and software development
- Lead planning and implementation of Enterprise Platform Solutions
- Establish common delivery standards and measure development practices for continuous improvement
- Lead technical design and implementation of software solutions
- Participate in all aspects of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to design reusable, scalable and secure solutions for UBC and its clients
- Establish standards and readiness gates for concept, POC, pilot and production stages
- Create and improve workflows for CI/CD, unit testing, deployment, release management, documentation and operational support
- Guide responsible use of AI-assisted development
- Partner with Information Security on code quality, dependencies, library risks, data handling and secure deployment
- Manage risk, escalations and resource optimization across Agile delivery pipelines
- Serve as a key member of the IT Enterprise Architecture Center of Excellence
- Manage resources within the IT Platform Development team
- Supervise Software Development Managers, Software Architects and Software Development Engineers
Requirements:
- BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related fields, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on software engineering and solutioning experience working in a technical environment
- Minimum of 5 years of people leadership experience
- Detail oriented and able to take a job to successful conclusion
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills
- Ability to perform multiple tasks
- Ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical individuals
- Flexibility on work hours
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with all phases of an SDLC
- In-depth knowledge of the software validation process in an FDA regulated environment
- Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 11, HIPAA and E2B requirements
- Excellent application documentation skills
- Solid understanding of Agile software development principles
- Structured Programming skills
- Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft .NET stack, including Microsoft Visual Studio, TFS/Azure DevOps, C#, ASP.NET, WebForms, MVC, Angular, Node.js and Web Services/API development
- Extensive working knowledge of relational database management systems, especially Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle
- Working knowledge of team development software and automated testing tools
