Job Description

Distinguished Systems Architect designing Verizon’s high-scale API authentication, routing, and authorization infrastructure. Defining platform architecture, reliability, security, and cloud strategy across multi-region systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Define the overall platform architecture, technical strategy, system reliability, and security controls across identity and platform services
  • Architect large-scale end-to-end platforms
  • Design prototypes to test viability
  • Establish architectural blueprints
  • Serve as the paramount subject matter expert during critical production incidents requiring deep system-wide diagnosis
  • Determine business and technical requirements for performance, security, reliability, scalability, and sustainability with internal and external stakeholders
  • Design, document, and maintain blueprints for large-scale systems infrastructure, virtual application topologies, multi-region data persistence, and inter-network API gateways
  • Design and implement First Office Applications, proof-of-concept models, and benchmarks
  • Partner with technology operations to lead production environment changes and ensure platform stability
  • Act as the primary escalation point for severe, system-wide production outages across cloud networks, Kubernetes orchestration, distributed SQL databases, and IAM services
  • Own security posture, compliance frameworks, and infrastructure lifecycle management
  • Conduct technical reviews of AWS IAM, KMS, and CloudTrail environments
  • Manage system cost optimizations and resolve vulnerabilities across virtual and physical environments
  • Provide technological vision for platform and network transformation
  • Lead cross-functional engineering teams, support system architectures, alleviate upstream/downstream impacts, and manage technology lifecycle planning

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work and/or military experience or specialized training
  • Experience in systems architecture, with demonstrated scope leading large-scale enterprise system designs
  • Experience in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), cloud-native platform blueprints, API gateway design, and cross-system protocol design
  • Experience with OAuth2, OIDC, PKCE, JWT, and CIBA
  • Advanced fluency in cloud computing and AWS ecosystems, including EKS, IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, Cost Explorer, and networking
  • Experience with multi-region system deployment and infrastructure-as-code principles
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems topologies, distributed databases such as CockroachDB and Spanner, data replication, transaction isolation behavior, and storage architectures
  • Ability to lead cross-functional architecture reviews, perform requirements analysis, conduct system benchmarking, and mentor engineering teams using Agile methodologies
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field is listed as an 'even better' qualification; MS, MBA, or equivalent experience is preferred
