Job Description

Fiber Designer creating optic splicing plans and maintaining network data for Vero’s broadband infrastructure serving underserved communities. Auditing contractors and supporting field crews with OTDR testing and splicing issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the integrity and documentation of the physical and logical network
  • Design complex fiber optic splicing plans based on customer specifications
  • Translate requirements into detailed engineering designs for vendor and contractor implementation
  • Review construction documents and ensure the network is accurately reflected in the inventory management system
  • Conduct quality assurance audits on network data integrity
  • Collaborate with project managers and construction vendors to execute network designs
  • Review, interpret, and analyze post-construction and maintenance OTDR test traces at various wavelengths
  • Audit contractor close-out packages and resolve technical discrepancies with vendors
  • Provide remote tier-2 and tier-3 technical support for field crews troubleshooting testing and splicing issues

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of telecommunications experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, fiber optic materials, construction methods, and OTDR traces
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • High proficiency with computers and applications such as Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Some experience using fiber optic network inventory systems
  • Some experience using GIS applications such as Google Earth, AutoCAD, QGIS, or ArcGIS
  • Strong analytical abilities
  • Professional communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Ability to pass a standard background check upon offer
  • At least 2 professional references required
  • Ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods using a computer and office equipment
  • Ability to perform fine motor tasks such as typing or using a mouse for extended periods
