Job Description
Field Application Engineer supporting Lumentum’s optical products for AI datacenters and GPU clusters. Driving customer design-ins, module troubleshooting, and technical adoption.
Responsibilities:
- Provide pre-sales technical support for complex products, applications, and solutions
- Deliver sales presentations and product demonstrations using in-depth product knowledge
- Build technical relationships with customers and assess product applications against customer needs
- Negotiate technical specifications and performance trade-offs with customers
- Participate in customer design reviews and contribute to technical responses to RFIs/RFQs
- Collect customer requirements and application use cases with sales and customers
- Bring up transceiver modules at customer sites, troubleshoot prototypes, and develop solutions supporting end-user applications
- Develop and manage customer product documentation, including corrective actions, analysis reports, manufacturing test plans, performance improvement plans, and reliability qualification plans and reports
- Manage the Product Change Notification process with customers and engineering
- Participate in failure analysis, corrective action, and lessons-learned activities
- Collaborate with Product Line Management, Sales, Product Development, R&D, and key customers to drive product design-ins and adoption in datacenters and GPU clusters
- Report to the Senior Director of Sales
Requirements:
- Degree in the physical sciences, electrical engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience designing, developing, or testing coherent optical modules and components
- Preferably experience with active products, including DSPs, receivers, modulators, and lasers
- Direct experience in product development and NPI processes with an optical components/modules company or system OEM
- Practical working knowledge of transceiver hardware, including specification and testing of firmware/hardware interfaces
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
- Familiarity with device firmware structure and functionality is a strong positive
- Familiarity with CMIS, C-CMIS, Ethernet, and Infiniband standards
- Familiarity with Arista, Cisco, and Nvidia switch/router platforms and ONTs
- Familiarity with Python
- Ability to speak and understand English is required; written skills emphasized
- Motivated, hands-on, can-do attitude and ability to create innovative solutions under pressure
