Job Description

Field Service Technician repairing and maintaining Smiths Detection’s airport and security screening equipment. Traveling daily across Chicago-area customer sites, including ORD airport.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet daily service repair needs and drive customer satisfaction
  • Install, repair, and maintain equipment in the field
  • Provide customer training as required
  • Document inspections, maintenance, and repair work and submit paperwork promptly
  • Order, install, and return parts while managing repair-parts cycle time
  • Review logs for open issues and prepare formal customer reports
  • Participate in service-sales opportunities and support revenue programs
  • Maintain and calibrate tools and test equipment
  • Assess equipment performance using field-support data and recommend improvements
  • Provide technical support to customers and other service professionals
  • Participate in site surveys, pilot-program service activities, and meetings
  • Maintain business communication with customers and colleagues
  • Build relationships with senior Field Service Engineers and Product Managers
  • Control and minimize costs
  • Comply with company health, safety, environmental, export-control, and security policies
  • Provide supervision on a project basis when required
  • Travel daily to customer locations in and around the Chicago Metro area, including ORD airport

Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree, related trade certification in electrical, electronic, or mechanical fields, or military training in electrical, mechanical, or electronics
  • Equivalence through 1–3 years of related electrical or mechanical field service work experience acceptable
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical and electronic systems and equipment in the field
  • Computer literacy and competency with all programs in the MS Office Suite
  • Aptitude for learning specialized software programs
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Strong customer focus and teamwork orientation
  • Responsiveness to customer issues at all times
  • Willingness and ability to travel at short notice
  • Basic technical knowledge of Trace and X-Ray technologies
  • Must successfully pass a federal background investigation if required
  • May require Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and TSA vetting
  • May require a U.S. Personal Security Clearance
  • Must be able to lift/carry 80 lbs
  • Must be able to push/pull 200 lbs
  • Must be able to move/manipulate equipment weighing up to 1,000 lbs with assistance from specified devices
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments around dangerous industrial equipment
  • Ability to work Monday–Friday, with travel, overtime, and other work hours potentially required
