Job Description
Identity and Microsoft 365 migration specialist modernizing enterprise Active Directory, Entra ID and Microsoft 365 estates. Delivering forest consolidation, device management and tenant-to-tenant workload migrations for IT services clients.
Responsibilities:
- Consolidate legacy Active Directory forests and manage coexistence through trusts, SID history and directory synchronization
- Move users, groups, computers and service accounts into the target forest
- Run Entra Connect and Cloud Sync through migration, including scoping changes and staging-mode cutovers
- Preserve existing cloud identities by managing sourceAnchor and ImmutableID values and using hard-match or soft-match
- Validate Conditional Access, MFA, RBAC and PIM after migration
- Clear SID history, remove migration trusts and retire old forests
- Move devices from domain-joined or hybrid-joined to Entra-joined and manage them in Intune
- Rebuild relevant Group Policy settings as Intune configuration and compliance policies
- Migrate Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online and Teams between tenants, including public folders where in scope
- Manage domain and mail-flow cutovers, including connectors, MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC
- Manage source-tenant data including sensitivity labels, encrypted content, retention policies and holds, raising design questions with PwC
- Select appropriate migration tools for each workload
- Script repetitive work and validation checks using PowerShell, Microsoft Graph PowerShell and the Graph API
- Maintain Azure VMs running migration and sync servers, including sizing, patching, backups, network access and monitoring
- Troubleshoot identity and Microsoft 365 issues, identify root causes and implement lasting fixes
- Follow the client's change control process for production changes
- Maintain runbooks, SOPs, validation reports and handover documents
- Join and sometimes lead working sessions with stakeholders in different regions
Requirements:
- 5+ years working with Microsoft identity and infrastructure, covering Active Directory, Entra ID and Microsoft 365
- Deep hands-on experience in identity migration or Microsoft 365 workload migration, with practical experience in the other area
- At least two migration projects delivered hands-on, covering both identity and Microsoft 365 workload migration areas between them
- Solid grasp of Active Directory forests and trusts, Group Policy, DNS, replication, Kerberos and LDAP
- Experience with Entra Connect or Cloud Sync and understanding of sourceAnchor and hard-match
- Hands-on experience with at least one migration tool, such as Quest, ADMT, ShareGate, BitTitan MigrationWiz or Microsoft native tooling
- Practical knowledge of Exchange Online mail flow, SharePoint and OneDrive permissions, Teams administration and Intune enrollment and policies
- Strong PowerShell, including the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK
- Clear, confident communication, both in writing and on calls
- Preferred: migrations of 5,000+ users across multiple forests or tenants
- Preferred: consolidation work following a merger or acquisition
- Preferred: Exchange hybrid and public folder migrations
- Preferred: Purview (DLP, sensitivity labels, retention) and Defender knowledge
- Preferred: Azure Automation runbooks
- Preferred: experience in banking, financial services or another regulated industry
- Certifications such as MS-102, SC-300, AZ-104 or MD-102 are helpful, not required
