Job Description
Senior Azure systems engineer modernizing federal government IT for Koniag Government Services. Leading cloud architecture, DevSecOps, automation, Agile coaching, and IV&V.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct business and systems analysis and architecture reviews for automation and infrastructure improvement initiatives
- Determine system and application architectures aligned with business impact and financial costs
- Identify Azure cloud-first architectures aligned with the Azure Well-Architected Framework
- Research emerging technologies and propose capability improvements
- Lead technology adoption and establish architectural best practices
- Perform cloud engineering, operations, support, and maintenance for migration from sovereign to commercial cloud environments
- Design and implement automation using IaC, templating, policy as code, CI/CD pipelines, feature toggles, and chaos engineering
- Implement Terraform and Ansible for provisioning, configuration, and deployment
- Develop and enforce cloud governance policies and policy-as-code
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines
- Drive DevSecOps, CloudOps, SRE, and Platform Engineering efforts to reduce system administration toil
- Provide day-to-day cloud operations, monitoring, and troubleshooting to meet SLAs
- Review cloud resources for security compliance and best practices
- Implement backup, disaster recovery, and high availability strategies
- Ensure cloud resources are financially transparent and traceable to cost centers
- Lead discovery sessions, stakeholder interviews, and requirements analysis
- Analyze business processes and apply Lean and TQM principles
- Develop process maps, data flow diagrams, and entity-relationship diagrams using CASE tools
- Apply reverse engineering and reengineering disciplines to legacy systems
- Produce modernization, migration, strategic planning, and system implementation documents
- Audit Agile practices, recommend improvements, and coach teams on Scrum and Kanban
- Implement Agile maturity metrics and feedback loops
- Conduct IV&V of applications and systems
- Develop and execute test plans and report deficiencies with corrective actions
- Maintain documentation for system designs, architectures, automation scripts, and process improvements
- Advise senior leaders on IT strategy and modernization
- Evaluate major project phases for alignment with standards and organizational goals
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field; additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Minimum 3 years of experience architecting, administering, maintaining, and optimizing systems and cloud-native solutions in Microsoft Azure
- Minimum 3 years of experience analyzing, reviewing, diagnosing, and remediating cloud issues involving performance, stability, and security
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Azure data storage solutions, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting
- Minimum 3 years of experience with database IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS resources including Oracle, Microsoft SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, Synapse, and Databricks in Azure
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Azure App Service, Azure Functions, Service Bus, and Azure Data Factory
- Minimum 3 years of experience applying the Azure Well-Architected Framework
- Minimum 10 years of experience with written and verbal communication about complex cloud topics
- Minimum 10 years of experience in system and application design, architecture, and engineering
- Minimum 10 years of experience in Agile software development, user-centered design, and product team management
- Minimum 10 years of experience in business and IT process engineering, continuous improvement, and quality management
- Active or ability to obtain a federal security clearance
- Microsoft Azure certifications are preferred
- Experience supporting USDA or other federal civilian agencies is preferred
- Familiarity with FedRAMP, FISMA, and NIST 800-53 is preferred
