Job Description
Lead backend engineer owning Solidgate’s tax calculation and reporting platform. Designing distributed systems and scaling fintech infrastructure for internet businesses.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the Taxes module within the Billing team
- Define the architecture and technical strategy for tax calculation and reporting logic
- Lead integrations with third-party tax providers and own technical partnerships
- Drive system resilience, uptime, and scalability across services
- Make architectural decisions and establish engineering standards and best practices
- Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team
- Help shape hiring as the team scales
- Deliver core tax functionality in the first months
- Establish the technical foundation and engineering practices for future product and team growth
- Champion automated unit, integration, functional, and end-to-end testing
Requirements:
- 4+ years of backend engineering experience in Go, PHP, Kotlin, Java, or Python
- Proven experience designing and owning high-load, distributed systems
- Strong, hands-on experience with PostgreSQL
- Solid experience with queues or streams
- Experience with unit, integration, functional, and end-to-end testing
- Experience mentoring engineers and setting technical direction
- Proactive, independent, result-oriented mindset with strong ownership
- Kafka experience is nice to have
- AWS services experience is nice to have
- CI/CD pipelines experience is nice to have
- Fintech, payments, or financial domain experience is nice to have
- Understanding of VAT, GST, or Sales Tax is nice to have
- Experience managing or leading teams is nice to have
