Job Description

Lead Software Engineer embedded in Beacon’s acquired vertical SaaS companies. Shipping code, modernizing engineering practices, coaching teams, and deploying AI-powered product capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Join one portfolio company full time as its lead engineer and grow it
  • Write code every day and coach surrounding engineers to improve their coding
  • Pick up the company's stack, work in the codebase, and ship working software to customers early and often
  • Modernize the software development lifecycle with CI, tests, staging, feature flags, deploys anyone can run, and coding agents
  • Coach the engineers already at the portfolio company
  • Work with the GM to set the product roadmap and own trade-offs
  • Introduce coding-agent workflows so work that took weeks can take days
  • Put AI capabilities into production products, including retrieval, tool use, evaluations and guardrails

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including time as a tech lead, founding engineer, CTO of a small company, or the one engineer holding a product together
  • Production software development experience in at least three different technology stacks
  • Comfortable learning and working across stacks including .NET, Rails, Python, TypeScript, Oracle, PHP and others
  • Experience taking over a messy codebase and a discouraged team
  • Uses coding agents every day and can demonstrate their setup
  • Able to work directly with GMs, operators and customers
  • Able to exercise independent judgment without daily supervision
  • Bonus: first engineering leader at a company with no prior engineering leadership
  • Bonus: vertical or B2B SaaS experience, especially where the buyer and user are different people
  • Bonus: experience modernizing a legacy codebase without a rewrite

Benefits:

  • Beacon has raised $550M+ from investors including General Catalyst, Lightspeed, D1 Capital, CPMG, and the family offices of the founders of Stripe, DoorDash, and Ramp.
  • AI-enabled tools are used to support hiring efficiency and consistency, with every application reviewed by a team member and hiring decisions made by humans.
