Job Description

Pre-Service Representative verifying insurance benefits and securing authorizations for Ochsner Health patients. Communicating liability and coordinating pre-service requirements before scheduled care.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, validate, and complete all steps needed to clear new cases for pre-scheduled services
  • Validate and gather insurance and demographic information
  • Contact insurance companies by website, phone, or fax to verify benefits and obtain authorizations
  • Identify insurance guidelines and facilitate communication
  • Use the EPIC system to verify benefits and eligibility
  • Complete and obtain necessary authorizations for scheduled services
  • Collaborate with clinical providers, on-site case management, and LPN/RN or Nurse Auditor staff
  • Perform pre-service collection estimation and communicate patient liability
  • Provide point-of-service information and logistics to support an exceptional patient experience
  • Maintain compliance with applicable laws, accreditation standards, regulations, privacy, and safety requirements
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates Degree or Bachelor Degree preferred
  • 1 year of related experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, business services/revenue cycle, front-line registration, financial counseling, banking, and/or customer service-related job required
  • Experience with EPIC preferred
  • Computer skills and dexterity for patient-information data entry and retrieval
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and role-specific software packages
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during high-pressure or stressful patient financial and medical conversations
  • Reliable transportation to travel to other facilities as needed
  • Ability to comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements
