Job Description
Principal Relay Settings Engineer designing protective relay schemes and settings for Qualus’s utility and power infrastructure clients. Performing coordination, short-circuit studies, and generation interconnection analysis.
Responsibilities:
- Design, specify, calculate settings, and coordinate protective relays and relay control schemes
- Perform modeling, short circuit, and overstressed breaker studies
- Develop protective relaying recommendations for proposed generation interconnections to clients’ electrical systems
- Ensure relay settings activities, initiatives, and processes conform to company policies, objectives, and client design standards
- Present technical solutions to key customers, respond to technical concerns in real time, and answer questions
- Collaborate with Qualus groups and individuals to develop and implement technical solutions supporting Engineering Department objectives
- Support multiple projects in parallel
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) with a power systems focus; an MS Degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the BS Engineering degree
- International Engineering Degrees will be considered from an ABET accredited school
- 12+ years of experience in protection and control engineering and relay settings
- Demonstrated experience with CAPE and/or ASPEN
- Professional Engineering (PE) registration is required
- Professional Engineering registration in the working state is a plus
- Strong analytical and computer skills
- Ability to identify necessary software to complete needed design work
- Strong communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of support personnel
- Strong commitment to customer service and care
- Highly motivated "self-starter"
- Proven multitasking skills
- Excellent document management and organizational skills
- CYME familiarity, reclosers/sectionalizing schemes/fuse coordination preferred
