Job Description
Principal architect leading Avery Dennison’s global data and AI platform engineering. Designing multi-cloud architecture, metadata systems, security models, and enterprise LLM infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as technical lead and pillar head for Data Platform Engineering within the Data Excellence & AI Foundations organization
- Define, architect, and evolve Avery Dennison’s enterprise 10-Layer Data & AI Operating System
- Lead the transition from legacy ETL pipelines to a high-code Platform Engineering practice using GitOps, Data-as-Code, declarative management, and automated metadata control planes
- Own the global architecture blueprint and technology decision trees for enterprise analytical and AI platforms
- Architect the 10-Layer Modern Data Operating System across OCI, GCP, and Azure
- Architect and deploy the centralized Metadata Control Plane and automated Data Catalog
- Coordinate schema tracking, lineage graphs, data quality observability, GitOps methodologies, reusable developer toolboxes, and context-as-code for LLM reasoning
- Design and govern enterprise AI infrastructure standards for Vector Databases, Knowledge Graphs, Feature Stores, and RAG pipelines
- Support corporate Gemini LLM solutions and autonomous AI agents with deterministic verification mechanisms
- Design and enforce the Universal Security Model with ABAC, fine-grained masking, and Okta/Active Directory integration
- Implement SRE-style observability for platform health, latency, query performance, and compute costs
- Lead the Data Platform Engineering squad
- Guide and mentor technical talent across pipeline, data, analytics, AI/LLM, DevOps, and APEX engineering
- Partner with HR on technical career progression tracks and competency matrices
- Present complex architectural blueprints to executive sponsors
Requirements:
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related quantitative field
- 10+ years in enterprise data architecture, platform engineering, or cloud infrastructure design
- 3+ years leading technical teams in a global enterprise context
- Expert proficiency in OCI, GCP, and Azure
- Expertise with Oracle ADW 23c/26ai, Databricks, and Apache Iceberg or Delta Lake
- High-code data engineering mastery in Python, SQL, Apache Airflow, Kafka/Confluent streaming, CDC/GoldenGate, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, and GitOps CI/CD pipelines
- Experience with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI
- Experience architecting enterprise AI/ML infrastructure, including Vector DBs, Knowledge Graphs, Feature Stores, RAG pipelines, and enterprise LLM integrations with Gemini
- Experience establishing Universal Security Models, including ABAC, RLS, and Okta/Active Directory
- Proven record of mentoring technical talent
- Strong strategic leadership and communication skills
- Background presenting complex architectural blueprints to VP/CIO-level executive sponsors
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check and drug screening required as a condition of employment
