Job Description
Principal Software Engineer leading Go and AWS document-processing pipelines for TREND Health Partners, a healthcare payment-integrity company. Driving scalable PDF processing, observability, architecture, and engineering mentorship.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the evolution of the document processing pipeline by designing Step Functions state machines, writing modular Go services, and defining swappable workflow-step contracts
- Solve PDF processing challenges at scale, including malformed input, structural variance, and performance across documents ranging from a few pages to tens of thousands
- Build operational metrics and observability for the document pipeline and other platform areas
- Take loosely defined problems through solution design to shipped production systems
- Mentor and grow engineers working in the document-processing space
- Contribute to database design and query performance across Postgres/RDS
- Work with OpenSearch for document indexing and search functionality
- Support the wider platform ecosystem as needed
- Review code, contribute to architecture decisions, and help set technical direction
- Partner with product and engineering leads to turn loose requirements into technical designs
Requirements:
- Documented professional software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production systems
- Strong Go experience, particularly for backend/service work
- Hands-on experience with document processing at scale, including PDF structure and edge cases
- Experience designing and implementing metrics and observability for production systems
- Comfort with AWS serverless patterns: Lambda, Step Functions, ECS, and event-driven architecture
- Solid database fundamentals, including schema design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting
- Track record of driving work from an ambiguous starting point to a finished product
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with limited oversight
- Strong communication skills for explaining tradeoffs to engineers and non-engineers
- Experience mentoring engineers day to day
- Ability to handle sensitive data (PHI) responsibly and in line with HIPAA requirements
- Proficiency in C++ preferred, not required
- Interest or experience in Rust preferred
- Hands-on OpenSearch or Lucene-based search experience preferred
- Experience with document-centric pipelines such as OCR, classification, or extraction preferred
- Healthcare or payment-integrity industry background preferred
- Comfort using agentic coding tools preferred
