Job Description

Principal Software Engineer leading Go and AWS document-processing pipelines for TREND Health Partners, a healthcare payment-integrity company. Driving scalable PDF processing, observability, architecture, and engineering mentorship.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the evolution of the document processing pipeline by designing Step Functions state machines, writing modular Go services, and defining swappable workflow-step contracts
  • Solve PDF processing challenges at scale, including malformed input, structural variance, and performance across documents ranging from a few pages to tens of thousands
  • Build operational metrics and observability for the document pipeline and other platform areas
  • Take loosely defined problems through solution design to shipped production systems
  • Mentor and grow engineers working in the document-processing space
  • Contribute to database design and query performance across Postgres/RDS
  • Work with OpenSearch for document indexing and search functionality
  • Support the wider platform ecosystem as needed
  • Review code, contribute to architecture decisions, and help set technical direction
  • Partner with product and engineering leads to turn loose requirements into technical designs

Requirements:

  • Documented professional software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production systems
  • Strong Go experience, particularly for backend/service work
  • Hands-on experience with document processing at scale, including PDF structure and edge cases
  • Experience designing and implementing metrics and observability for production systems
  • Comfort with AWS serverless patterns: Lambda, Step Functions, ECS, and event-driven architecture
  • Solid database fundamentals, including schema design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting
  • Track record of driving work from an ambiguous starting point to a finished product
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions with limited oversight
  • Strong communication skills for explaining tradeoffs to engineers and non-engineers
  • Experience mentoring engineers day to day
  • Ability to handle sensitive data (PHI) responsibly and in line with HIPAA requirements
  • Proficiency in C++ preferred, not required
  • Interest or experience in Rust preferred
  • Hands-on OpenSearch or Lucene-based search experience preferred
  • Experience with document-centric pipelines such as OCR, classification, or extraction preferred
  • Healthcare or payment-integrity industry background preferred
  • Comfort using agentic coding tools preferred

Benefits:

  • Competitive salaries
  • Health insurance
  • 401(k) plan with employer match
  • Paid parental leave
  • Collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Mac-based workplace
  • Modern tooling, including AI-assisted coding
