Job Description

Senior software engineer building production .NET applications for Milliman’s insurance e-billing platform. Designing distributed systems, REST integrations, testing, and mentoring engineers remotely across the U.S.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, debug, release, and maintain production web applications and distributed systems
  • Work primarily on back-end systems using the core stack, contributing to front-end features when needed
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to shape requirements and deliver high-quality software
  • Write clean, maintainable code and contribute through code reviews, testing, and technical discussions
  • Improve software quality through automated tests, monitoring, and production reliability practices
  • Review user stories and project requirements, clarifying gaps and details for the team
  • Contribute to API design and system integrations, including REST-based services and application workflows
  • Break down work, surface risks, and keep delivery moving
  • Support and mentor other engineers through collaboration, pairing, code review, and knowledge sharing
  • Work in an agile environment and contribute to predictable software delivery
  • Use modern developer tooling, including AI coding agents and related workflows
  • Collaborate with security and infrastructure partners to keep applications secure, stable, and supported
  • Stay current on relevant tools, practices, and technologies and apply improvements to the product or team

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience designing, building, and releasing web applications in production environments
  • 5+ years of back-end development experience with .NET and C#
  • 3+ years of experience implementing and integrating REST APIs
  • 3+ years of experience with SQL Server or another relational database
  • 2+ years of experience using ORM frameworks such as Entity Framework Core
  • 2+ years of front-end development experience with Svelte, React, or Vue, ideally with TypeScript
  • Experience in Agile software development environments such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Formal or informal leadership experience within a software team
  • Excellent track record of on-time product delivery
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and interdependent deliverables
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with technical and non-technical teammates
  • Proactive communication in a virtual work environment
  • Collaborative, pragmatic, dependable, low-ego approach
  • Ability to balance speed, quality, and maintainability
  • Customer service orientation and prompt follow-up on customer issues
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman now or in the future
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a relevant major (preferred, not required)
  • Preferred: experience with AI-assisted development tools, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and observability, accessible user interfaces, Azure, webhooks or event-driven integrations, and the insurance industry
