Job Description

Remote Psychiatrist delivering virtual behavioral healthcare under LAUKOA’s Defense Health Agency contract. Evaluating patients, coordinating treatment, and completing military medical assessments.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform duties as a Practitioner and Consultant in Psychiatry through virtual platforms for low- and/or moderate-acuity patients
  • Provide routine outpatient treatment and continuing follow-up care for chronic outpatients with acute disorders and complications
  • Provide psychiatric care for triage patients presenting with acute illnesses
  • Establish evaluation techniques, develop treatment and rehabilitation plans, and provide therapeutic treatment services
  • Examine patients, evaluate laboratory and clinical findings, prescribe treatment, or refer patients to specialty clinics
  • Collaborate with physicians in other specialties and provide consultation or medical support to psychologists, nurses, social workers, military liaisons, and commanders
  • Direct quality assurance within the area of responsibility
  • Recommend hospitalization, determine fitness for duty, and complete MEB, TDRL, psychological autopsy, sanity board, command consultation, and other administrative evaluations
  • Identify treatment needs and arrange safe therapeutic outcomes
  • Explain TRICARE requirements and benefits to TRICARE/DoD beneficiaries
  • Prepare and maintain convenience files and outpatient and inpatient medical records
  • Prepare case summaries and correspondence
  • Attend staff meetings for case discussion, continuing education, quality improvement, and safety
  • Update patient charts within 72 business hours after appointments, and update high-visibility or higher-acuity patient documentation by close of business
  • Follow SOPs, duty limitations, weapons access assessments, Government and professional clinical standards, and accepted clinical protocols

Requirements:

  • Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree
  • Successfully completed an internship, residency in Psychiatry and/or Psychiatry Fellowship in an accredited United States Psychiatry Training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
  • Two years of experience providing Psychiatry using virtual platforms; candidates with less than two years will be considered
  • Experience providing Psychiatry using virtual platforms within the Military Health System preferred; virtual health experience outside the MHS acceptable
  • Current board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Psychiatrist
  • Must fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges
  • Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross
  • Advanced certification such as ALS does not supersede BLS
