Job Description
Research Scientist III handling data analysis and support for fire safety research at UL Research Institutes. Collaborating with teams and ensuring data quality in fire safety projects.
Responsibilities:
- Identifies fundamental knowledge needed to enhance UL’s thought leadership and support the strategy of UL.
- Applies intensive and diverse knowledge of engineering technology and systems engineering concepts to the specific research tasks.
- Exercises a high degree of judgment in formulating, evaluating, and correlating broad engineering research concepts and guiding the analysis of unique problems and developing new and improved techniques and methods.
- Analyzes emergency response data to determine trends and develop solutions.
- Experience developing automated test datasets and repeatable frameworks, data quality checks and validation scripts.
- Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance compliance using enterprise catalog tools.
- Stays ahead of changing technologies, in the field by reading journals and scientific publications, and attending academic conferences.
- Plan, design, and complete initial and follow-up tests as needed to validate results.
- Work with students and teams.
- Present research results internally or externally as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 8 or more years of directly related work experience or
- Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field plus 4 or more years of directly related work experience or
- PhD in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field or equivalent experience plus 2 or more years of directly related work experience.
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools and modern data pipeline architectures.
- Experience with data validation, cleansing, and quality assurance methodologies.
- Experience testing and troubleshooting data pipelines, data integrations, and data transformation processes.
- Experience developing automated data quality checks and validation scripts.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platforms and analytics environments (AWS, Snowflake, Dash).
