Job Description
Senior Backend Engineer building and operating scalable Go and Node.js APIs for Fingerprint’s enterprise fraud-detection platform. Owning SLOs, observability, on-call reliability, and backend performance.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize backend systems for real-time data processing and web services
- Define and own SLIs and SLOs for Core API services and use error budgets to balance shipping velocity and stability
- Build and maintain observability through metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, and alerts
- Participate in a shared on-call rotation and respond to incidents
- Lead blameless postmortems and complete incident action items
- Automate recurring manual work to reduce operational toil
- Conduct capacity planning, load testing, and performance tuning
- Investigate problematic features, identify root causes, run experiments, and implement engineering improvements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate backend components
- Share engineering best practices and foster a reliability-minded culture
- Mentor other developers
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in backend development, including meaningful time operating what you built in production
- Formal SRE practice experience, including error budget policies, capacity models, production readiness reviews, and chaos or fault-injection testing
- Strong demonstrated experience in GoLang and/or Node.js, with willingness to learn
- Strong experience designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems
- Experience building and optimizing APIs, real-time data processing systems, and microservices architectures
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
- Working fluency with observability tooling such as Datadog or comparable monitoring, logging, and tracing platforms
- Experience participating in an on-call rotation
- Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with DynamoDB, Redis, or Elasticsearch
- Proficiency with Git, IDEs, shell scripting, and CI/CD
- Proficient in English
- Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating as a team member
- Strong desire to mentor and grow junior team members
