Job Description
Senior backend engineer building AI-native, high-throughput device services for Life360’s family safety platform. Supporting telemetry, connectivity, and pet experiences across US and Canadian remote teams.
Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain backend services supporting device connectivity, telemetry ingest, health monitoring, and command/control operations
- Collaborate with firmware, mobile, and product teams to define APIs and workflows for device features
- Deliver scalable, resilient systems in a microservices environment running on AWS, including EKS, Lambda, DynamoDB, and SQS
- Build and own high-throughput data pipelines using Kafka or similar streaming technology
- Instrument services for observability, reliability, and SLO compliance
- Participate in on-call rotations and live incident response
- Write clean, testable, performant code and improve CI/CD and automation
- Orchestrate AI coding agents for specification writing, code generation, test authoring, incident triage, pull request review, and system design
- Help establish and evolve AI-native engineering practices for the Pet Experiences team
- Deliver features to production weekly
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years experience building backend services in Java, Go, Python, or similar languages
- Experience with microservices architecture, RESTful API design, and distributed systems
- Strong skills with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), container orchestration, and deployments
- Experience with databases (relational and/or NoSQL), caching layers, and event/streaming systems
- Comfortable collaborating across teams and articulating technical tradeoffs
- Hands-on agentic AI workflow experience
- Experience with IoT or telematics systems (nice-to-have)
- Familiarity with Kafka, Kinesis, or other streaming platforms (nice-to-have)
- Experience with high-frequency ingest systems and time-series data (nice-to-have)
- Background with observability tooling such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry (nice-to-have)
- Knowledge of SRE practices and automated testing frameworks (nice-to-have)
- Daily use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot
- Accountability for reviewing AI-generated code
- Ability to automate prompting strategies and share effective practices
- Ability to stay current with rapidly changing AI tooling
