Job Description
Senior Backend Engineer owning search, data, integrations, and fulfilment automation for a Nordic dental distribution platform. Extending WooCommerce with PHP, MySQL, REST, and scalable architecture.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of and stabilise the commerce platform
- Own search, filtering, and sorting across an 80,000+ product catalogue
- Structure large datasets covering products, customers, purchasing behaviour, and logistics
- Optimise databases and queries for large catalogue workloads and WooCommerce performance
- Build and extend supplier integrations for stock synchronisation, cost synchronisation, and pricing engines
- Automate the order-to-fulfilment flow, including order processing, supplier handoff, and payment flow
- Build multi-segment pricing logic for customer groups with different prices and discounts
- Evaluate and influence architectural decisions involving search platforms, headless options, data services, and AI-assisted workflows
- Progressively assume technical ownership as the founder steps back from hands-on technical work
Requirements:
- 5+ years of backend / full-stack engineering experience, with PHP and MySQL among your working tools
- Strong analytical and structural thinking
- Genuine independence and ability to solve high-level problems without daily instructions
- Comfort in a Linux server environment, including deployment, debugging, and administration
- REST API design and integration
- Git
- Experience with large-scale e-commerce catalogues is a strong plus
- Search technology exposure (Elasticsearch, Solr, Algolia, or similar) is a strong plus
- ERP or supplier integration work is a strong plus
- Background processing / job queue architecture is a strong plus
- Data processing and pipeline experience is a strong plus
- WooCommerce / WordPress familiarity is a strong plus
