Job Description
Senior Staff Data Engineer leading Capital One’s enterprise data pipelines and cloud architecture. Driving scalable data platforms, governance, and innovation across banking technology.
Responsibilities:
- Define the future of data platforms and banking in the cloud
- Drive innovation and deliver scalable, reusable data solutions to complex problems
- Lead technical strategy for data pipelines and data-sharing capabilities across lines of business
- Drive best practices, engineering and delivery acceleration, platform scalability, operational excellence, performance, and resiliency
- Build awareness and adoption of modern technologies
- Promote engineering excellence and reuse or innersource solutions
- Communicate with and influence stakeholders across the enterprise
- Advise on technology, platform, and capability domains
- Mentor internal talent and recruit external talent
- Research emerging trends in data, AI, and engineering and develop an integration roadmap
- Lead strategic alignment and integration decisions across data systems and business units
- Own data strategy artifacts, governance policies, architecture blueprints, and data product roadmaps
- Design and code critical data projects while influencing architectural standards
- Work hands-on with AWS, Lakehouse architecture, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Snowflake, Databricks, Python, SQL, Java, and/or Scala
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering)
- At least 9 years of experience in data engineering
- At least 5 years of experience in data architecture
- At least 3 years of experience building applications in AWS
- At least 7 years of experience programming with Python, Java, or Scala
- At least 6 years of experience designing and developing data pipelines
- At least 4 years of experience in data modeling and designing end-to-end data solutions using relational and non-relational database systems
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- Preferred: 11+ years of experience in data engineering
- Preferred: 8+ years of data modeling experience
- Preferred: Experience with ontology standards, machine learning model deployment, public cloud environments, distributed data or compute workloads, real-time or streaming data pipelines, data observability or orchestration tools, NoSQL databases, data warehousing solutions, Agile development, and reusable data products
