Job Description
Senior PHP Developer building customer-facing products and internal tools for a Melbourne-based internet service provider. Designing Laravel applications, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, and automated tests within a remote scrum team.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain robust, scalable PHP and Laravel applications
- Build and integrate APIs, background jobs, and data models for internal tools and customer-facing products
- Write clean, maintainable code according to company standards
- Contribute to architectural decisions and maintain secure, scalable codebases
- Participate in code reviews
- Champion engineering standards for testing, version control, and documentation
- Improve technical standards and development processes
- Resolve complex problems and discuss design decisions with developers
- Participate in sprint planning, estimation, reviews, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with stakeholders on features, maintenance, and bug fixes
- Collaborate with QA on test coverage and acceptance criteria
- Deliver sprint goals and address project-delivery risks
- Build automated unit and integration tests
- Work with CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows
- Improve development processes, tooling, and ways of working
- Maintain documentation for designs, features, systems, databases, and processes
- Report directly to the Development Team Leader within a scrum-based development team
Requirements:
- Strong English language skills, written and verbal
- Willingness to work Melbourne, Australia hours
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours for planned deployments
- Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years' experience in a similar DevOps or Systems Engineering role
- Experience working in remote-based teams
- Extensive experience designing and implementing automated CI/CD pipelines
- Strong understanding of Docker, Linux environments, and cloud infrastructure scaling
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Experience with PHP 8
- Experience with Laravel Framework
- Experience with a JavaScript framework such as React, Vue.js, or Angular
- Experience with local development/virtualization tools such as Vagrant, Docker, XAMPP, or MAMP
- Experience with Linux server environments
- Experience with database architecture and query/table optimization using MySQL, MariaDB, or Redis
- Experience with Git, GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket
- Experience with REST or GraphQL API design and integration
- Experience with AI tooling/automation
- Familiarity with DevOps and Laravel Framework is desirable
