Job Description
Senior EDW Data Architect designing Teradata enterprise data warehouses for regulated banking clients. Leading governance, data modelling, SQL validation, and delivery support in a remote EU contract.
Responsibilities:
- Own and support data architecture design for enterprise data warehouse delivery
- Analyse source data, data flows, business requirements, and downstream consumption needs
- Perform Teradata SQL investigation, detailed technical analysis, and solution validation
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, domains, engineers, testers, delivery leads, and peer architects
- Assess design options and recommend pragmatic, scalable, standards-aligned solutions
- Produce and maintain High Level Designs, Architecture Design Decisions, solution options, design rationale, assumptions, risks, and governance-ready packs
- Present designs and recommendations to Architecture Boards and governance forums
- Embed data governance, metadata, lineage, controls, reconciliation, auditability, privacy, and regulatory compliance into solution design
- Support metadata-driven delivery frameworks
- Support delivery teams through build, testing, implementation, and issue resolution
- Work approximately 50% hands-on on SQL investigation, detailed data analysis, solution validation, and delivery support
Requirements:
- 8+ years' experience in data engineering and architecture
- 5+ years in data architecture, as a Data Architect or senior Data Engineering Lead with demonstrable architecture ownership
- Strong hands-on Teradata experience in an on-premises EDW environment
- Advanced Teradata SQL querying, data investigation, issue analysis, and technical validation
- Practical experience with the Teradata Financial Services Data Model or equivalent financial services data model
- Strong understanding of EDW design, data marts, data integration patterns, and large-scale data platform delivery
- Experience in banking, financial services, or regulatory data environments
- Knowledge of BCBS 239, RDARR, regulatory reporting, data traceability, auditability, and evidence-based control design
- Strong data analysis and data modelling skills
- Proven ability to produce governance-ready HLDs and ADDs and present them to Architecture Boards
- Strong stakeholder management, independent ownership, constructive challenge, and decision-driving ability
- Mandatory: Teradata on-prem EDW and advanced SQL
- Mandatory: Teradata FSDM or equivalent financial services data model
- Mandatory: Inmon-style integrated EDW architecture
- Experience with ETL delivery processes and tools, ideally Informatica and/or DataStage
- Experience with metadata-driven ingestion, transformation, control, and reconciliation frameworks
- Experience with Control-M or comparable batch scheduling and orchestration tools
- Nice to have: Teradata Global Control Framework or similar control framework
- Nice to have: Cloudera or comparable big data platforms
- Nice to have: modern hybrid warehouse/lake architecture patterns
- Nice to have: data observability, operational resilience, and production support experience
- Nice to have: broader hands-on data engineering background
