Job Description

Senior Electrical Engineer leading solar PV and battery storage design at SLR, a sustainability consultancy. Overseeing power studies, project execution, commissioning, and technical advisory across North America and the Caribbean.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and review solar PV and battery energy storage system design from rooftop to utility-scale projects
  • Mentor Engineering team members and review deliverables for technical quality and consistency
  • Provide technical support across design, interconnection, and construction phases
  • Oversee day-to-day project execution, assign tasks, manage workflows, track milestones, and prepare status reports
  • Interface with clients, vendors, utilities, and local authorities
  • Conduct energy production simulations and modeling using MS Excel, PVSyst, and Helioscope
  • Perform power system studies including underground ampacity, load flow, protective coordination, short-circuit, grounding, and arc flash analysis using ETAP
  • Prepare and maintain feasibility studies, scopes of work, commissioning reports, technical specifications, and RFP responses
  • Assist Project Leads with engineering task prioritization, resource management, and administrative duties
  • Ensure designs comply with NEC, CEC, IEEE, building, and fire codes
  • Conduct on-site field visits for design verification, construction, and commissioning
  • Recommend and implement improvements in design practices, project execution, and product performance
  • Support business development through proposal input, engineering scope estimates, and system configuration advice
  • Collaborate with external engineering consultants and partners for quality assurance and jurisdictional compliance

Requirements:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in power systems engineering with solar and battery storage experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in New York or a state with reciprocity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD)
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)
  • Familiarity with IEEE 1547, CSA 22.2 No. 107.1, UL 1741, and NFPA 855 is an asset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Legally authorized to work in U.S.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites
