Job Description
Senior Health Data Scientist developing advanced analytics from healthcare claims and clinical data. Supporting Inovalon’s data-driven solutions for healthcare customers and patients.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and serve as subject matter expert for highly complex data extracts, programming, and analytical modeling supporting internal and external clients
- Guide and support junior staff as needed
- Collaborate with health services researchers and business analysts to analyze large administrative claims, electronic medical records, and healthcare registry datasets
- Develop solutions to strategic business problems using advanced modeling and statistical analysis techniques
- Use SQL and Snowflake for advanced data extraction, transformation, and management
- Document and manage source code and algorithm libraries
- Develop and test hypotheses supporting research and product offerings
- Communicate findings clearly, precisely, and actionably
- Lead complex operational data requests and create ad-hoc queries using SAS and R
- Assist in evaluating data analytics vendors and tools
- Adhere to confidentiality, HIPAA, regulatory, and company policies
- Fulfill other responsibilities assigned to achieve operational and financial success
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in healthcare or pharmaceutical industries working with administrative claims data
- Strong SQL programming skills required
- Experience with Snowflake strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of and experience using SAS and R required
- Demonstrated problem-solving, analytical reasoning, and decision-making skills
- Experience resolving data issues with large, complex, and incomplete data sources
- Business analytical skills including process flows, procedures, spreadsheets, and modeling
- Understanding of design and architecture principles
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects with competing priorities
- Excellent analytical skills and ability to interpret results based on advanced statistical techniques
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in IT and business environments
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to work under minimal supervision in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
- Advanced knowledge of healthcare, health policy, pharmaceutical, and related issues
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics, Statistics, Engineering, Public Health, or a related discipline required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
