Job Description
Senior engineer building Scala, Akka, and Java microservices for heavy-equipment notification systems. Developing high-availability services and mentoring engineers in a fully remote contract role.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, deploy, and maintain microservices using Scala and Akka technologies, including Streams, Actors, HTTP, and Persistence
- Build robust, high-availability platform notification services at scale
- Work independently on complex application and infrastructure components used across one or more systems
- Drive application development focused on high-value business features
- Identify and resolve complex application and technical problems end-to-end
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and provide technical guidance
- Establish and uphold high standards for software quality, practices, and team habits
- Guide structured development of code, program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides
- Champion team growth and continuous improvement
- Communicate with end users and internal stakeholders
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 8+ years of experience
- 5+ years of software development experience using Java 8+
- 2+ years of Scala programming experience
- 2+ years working with Akka technologies, including Streams, Actors, HTTP, and Persistence
- Experience designing Spring Boot RESTful APIs
- Experience designing and implementing high-availability, reliable solutions
- Knowledge of MVC, microservices, and event-driven architectural patterns
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps or Jenkins
- Hands-on experience deploying and maintaining software on AWS, including API Gateway, ALB, NLB, Fargate, Lambda, S3, CloudWatch, IAM, and CloudFormation
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL and AWS DynamoDB
- Experience working within an Agile/Scrum framework
- Knowledge of data structures and algorithms
- Leadership on small-to-medium-scale projects tied to strategic priorities
