Job Description

Floating Sr. Portfolio Accountant handling advanced-level accounting tasks at Greystar. Overseeing workflows and ensuring continuity across accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as a senior floating accountant who can step into lead or manager roles during planned and unplanned absences.
  • Oversees team workflows.
  • Reviews and approves other accountants’ work.
  • Provides guidance, prioritization, and issue resolution.
  • Ensures that deadlines, close activities, and control processes continue uninterrupted.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert across multiple accounting areas, providing training, cross-coverage, and support to strengthen department continuity and reduce single points of failure.
  • Analyzes and reviews accounting and financial activity related to property acquisitions, dispositions, valuations, and closings.
  • Ensures accurate recording of capital expenditures, fixed assets, construction-in-progress (CIP), and depreciation in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepares and reconciles fixed asset schedules, property-level financial reports, and capital project budgets; monitors expenditures and ensures proper capitalization.
  • Supports lease accounting functions, including reconciliation of rent schedules, common area maintenance (CAM) adjustments, and straight-line rent (ASC 842).
  • Communicates with on-site and property management teams to support pre-close and close activities, resolve questions related to property operations, and ensure timely reporting for both company and client requirements.
  • Compiles and analyzes financial information in preparation for entries into financial statements and accounting reports; prepares and reviews journal entries to the general ledger by verifying calculations, reviewing supporting documentation, and reconciling and balancing figures.
  • Reviews budget, revenue, expense, payroll entries, invoices, and other accounting documents; researches and resolves discrepancies to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Performs bank reconciliations, processes wire transfers, prepares mortgage payments and distributions, and ensures accuracy of cash and debt-related transactions.
  • Maintains and coordinates accounting control procedures, including monitoring revenue and expenditure trends and recommending appropriate budget levels to support organizational financial control.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience applying GAAP in accounting and financial reporting roles.
  • Prior experience in property, real estate, or fixed asset accounting strongly preferred.
  • Experience at a level beyond a Senior Accountant, with readiness to step into lead or managerial duties.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present and explain financial data to senior leaders, property managers, and auditors.
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and property management accounting systems (e.g., Yardi, OneSite).
  • Strong mathematical skills, including the ability to compute percentages and analyze complex financial data.
  • Demonstrated expertise in GAAP, budgeting, cost control, property accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to handle complex assignments and leadership responsibilities.
  • Ability to provide interim supervision, review work of others, and support team leadership functions.
