Job Description

Senior Product Designer simplifying complex Cards & Credit experiences at Mercury, a fintech company. Owning product problems from framing through implementation with Product, Engineering, and Brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Own meaningful Cards & Credit product problems from initial framing through shipped experience, partnering closely with Product and Engineering to understand the problem and shape what to build
  • Turn complicated systems, requirements, and edge cases into simple and intuitive experiences
  • Work across the entire design stack, including problem framing, concept exploration, workflows, detailed interactions, visual design, prototyping, and final implementation
  • Explore broadly and design from first principles, questioning inherited patterns and assumptions
  • Bring interaction and visual craft to Cards & Credit, including workflow structure, hierarchy, typography, motion, and state
  • Collaborate with Mercury’s Brand team on physical cards and related products to create a cohesive experience
  • Develop a deep understanding of customers, communicate design reasoning clearly, and work through tradeoffs with partners

Requirements:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional product thinking, interaction design, and visual craft
  • Ability to understand complicated systems and turn them into simple, thoughtful product experiences
  • Deep curiosity about problems and willingness to question assumptions and work from first principles
  • High bar for craft and judgment about where additional detail improves an experience
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and taking ownership without every requirement defined
  • Habit of exploring multiple possibilities, prototyping ideas, and changing direction when stronger solutions emerge
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including articulating thinking, explaining tradeoffs, and building conviction with Product and Engineering partners
  • Deep care for customers and ambition to create products that improve their lives
  • Banking, fintech, cards, or credit background is not required
