Job Description
Senior Project Engineer managing design, execution, and commissioning of BESS projects in Japan. Delivering resilient energy infrastructure for utilities and large energy users at Energy Vault.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, optimize the design, and lead execution of Energy Vault BESS projects in Japan
- Take responsibility for project execution, including scope, schedule, stakeholders, and coordination
- Identify gaps in scope and responsibilities and work with stakeholders to address them
- Understand and support engineering, procurement, construction, and permitting processes
- Apply engineering principles and consult subject matter experts to identify issues and drive solutions
- Specify project equipment, including transformers, switchgear, and protection solutions
- Interface with project managers, product engineers, sales teams, utilities, AHJs, contractors, and end customers
- Review project design documents, including single-line drawings, communication diagrams, layouts, and equipment test reports
- Plan and lead BESS project commissioning
- Provide constructive feedback to improve internal processes and products
- Help document and build scalable processes, technology, and products
Requirements:
- Fluent in Japanese and English
- Current work rights in Japan
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (electrical or power system engineering) or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of experience leading project design, preferably for large power stations, PV, or other utility-scale power projects
- 5+ years of BESS project experience preferred
- 3+ years of experience working on EPC projects
- Knowledge of relevant electrical standards for BESS projects in Japan
- PE certification or equivalent preferred
- Familiarity with permitting processes with local authorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, up to 30%
- Comfortable in fast-paced, rapid-growth environments
