Job Description
Senior Software Engineer developing and supporting industrial software for automotive manufacturing operations. Leading IT initiatives, integrations, architecture, and technical mentorship across plant teams.
Responsibilities:
- Support and lead major software IT initiatives and projects across the organization
- Lead technical discussions and contribute to architectural decisions
- Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide innovative solutions
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Optimize application performance and ensure system reliability
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle from planning to deployment
- Design and implement data models supporting scalability and interoperability between facilities
- Integrate disparate systems using data connections, APIs, SAML, LDAP, and related technologies
- Work with Engineering and Plant teams to develop applications for customer and internal needs
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on technical and career development
- Collaborate with Accounting, Engineering, Production, Production Control, Quality, and other cross-functional teams
- Participate in agile development processes and sprint planning
- Communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Work with third-party vendors to ensure performance and high availability of vendor databases and applications
- Learn systems and complete ad hoc or project work with the IT team
- Manage assigned work and projects using modern project management tools
- Support IT software systems interfacing with physical processes
- Participate in a 24-7 hotline support rotation during assigned weeks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s (4-year) degree with a technical major, such as Information Systems, Computer Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent experience
- 4–6 years of high-level technical support, implementation and development experience, preferably in an automotive manufacturing or industrial setting
- 3–5 years of software development experience, preferably with Python
- 3–5 years of project management experience
- 3–5 years of T-SQL development experience, including SQL queries, stored procedures, or SQL views
- Experience installing, maintaining, and administering MSSQL databases preferred
- Experience with equipment integration using OPC Servers preferred
- Proficiency in Ignition by Inductive Automation
- Proficiency in SQL Server, including knowledge of high availability and disaster recovery options for MSSQL Server
- Proficiency in OPC, including OPC-UA and OPC-DA
- Proficiency in BI analytics tools such as Power BI, Qlik Sense, or Cognos
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as CMS, SAP, or QAD
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advance notice
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to climb ladders or use lifts to access IT equipment in elevated plant locations
