Job Description
Senior Software Engineer shaping Unity’s browser-based Web platform and real-time 3D runtime. Owning architecture, WebAssembly optimizations, complex debugging, and cross-team technical guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Help own the technical direction and architecture of the Unity Web platform
- Resolve complex, multidimensional runtime problems through deep root cause analysis and validate fixes against developer needs
- Research, design and implement optimizations including code stripping, progressive asset loading and multi-threading
- Prioritize and complete an independent portfolio of platform work in agreement with the manager
- Act as the first line of support for Unity teams and partners needing capabilities from the core Web platform
- Mentor engineers across the team and set the standard for code quality
- Translate technical trade-offs into clear, concise recommendations for Unity leaders
Requirements:
- Expert level C++ in low-level, performance sensitive code
- Substantial development experience with WebAssembly, using Emscripten and/or LLVM
- Proven track record of owning architecture for a platform or runtime and validating it against real customer needs
- Ability to run deep root cause analysis on complex, multidimensional problems
- Ability to work independently, prioritizing against long-term platform goals
- Effective written/verbal communication that boils deep technical detail down for teams outside your own
- Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar across a team
- Sufficient knowledge of English for professional verbal and written exchanges
- Experience working on the internals of a browser engine
- Deeper domain knowledge of rendering, physics or audio in a real-time 3D engine
- Familiarity with compression methodologies and code size optimization at scale
