Job Description

Senior Tax Administrator managing mutual fund tax preparation, regulatory compliance, and audit support for Ultimus Fund Solutions. Training associates and reviewing tax work for investment company clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review estimated year-end income and capital gain distributions
  • Prepare and review Subchapter M and Excise tax provision work papers
  • Calculate fund distribution requirements to satisfy income and excise requirements
  • Prepare tax work papers and distribution analyses for mutual funds
  • Determine fund tax status of investments and identify book and tax differences
  • Analyze complex general ledger accounts to roll forward tax accounts and identify items requiring different tax treatment from book treatment
  • Train fund administration team on department workflow processes
  • Perform limited preliminary product reviews to ensure adherence to department guidelines
  • Research and analyze federal and state tax laws, regulations, and regulatory rulings or decisions
  • Coordinate with financial administration on tax and regulatory compliance reporting
  • Maintain current knowledge of IRS tax law requirements
  • Gather information for IRS and auditor requests during audits
  • Act as a second-level escalation point and resolve issues where appropriate
  • Mentor associates through instruction, coaching, on-the-job experiences, and advising
  • Provide daily guidance to tax associates and Tax Administrator I staff
  • Collaborate with financial administration regarding tax implications of investment activities
  • Communicate with regulatory agencies and audit firms regarding information, issue resolution, inquiries, and reporting requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, tax, accounting, finance, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience with mutual fund taxation and fund administration of mutual funds
  • Equivalent education and experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of tax laws and procedures applicable to investment companies
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
  • Adobe Acrobat proficiency
  • Multitasking, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Strategic, meticulous, initiative-taking approach with commitment to quality, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Ability to plan and delegate work
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues using creative and critical thinking
  • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to establish and develop effective working relationships
  • Ability to adapt priorities and deadlines to changing conditions
