Job Description

Software Engineer II developing C#/.NET and SQL Server backend systems for Taxwell’s digital tax filing platform. Troubleshooting production issues and modernizing legacy applications with AI-assisted engineering tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance primarily backend applications and services using C#/.NET and SQL Server
  • Troubleshoot production issues across application code, databases, authentication, configuration, logging, integrations, and deployment environments
  • Work with modern and legacy .NET systems and make safe, focused improvements
  • Contribute to incremental modernization of legacy systems, including authentication, deployment, observability, and operational improvements
  • Work across services, databases, integrations, and support-facing applications when problems cross system boundaries
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and investigation notes
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, IT, Help Desk, Customer Success, and other teams to resolve technical issues
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools for development, code analysis, testing, debugging, and documentation, while evaluating AI-generated output before production use

Requirements:

  • Strong hands-on experience with C# and .NET application development
  • Strong SQL Server skills, including stored procedures and data-driven troubleshooting
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting backend applications, services, and integrations
  • Ability to understand unfamiliar or legacy code and make safe, focused changes
  • Experience diagnosing production issues using application logs, database analysis, and other operational data
  • Experience with AI development tools such as Claude Code or Cursor
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts such as OIDC, claims, roles, and sessions, or platforms such as Okta
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and software deployment practices
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools or strong willingness to incorporate them into day-to-day engineering workflows
  • Ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical partners
  • Nice to have: Experience with VB.NET, IIS, Windows services, Vue/TypeScript, and AWS services
