Job Description
Software Engineer developing and maintaining C++ Windows CAM software for GibbsCAM, an established manufacturing platform. Debugging mature codebases and expanding specialized machining capabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain software features for a large-scale Windows desktop CAM application
- Work from specifications provided by Product Management and senior engineers
- Diagnose and resolve defects in existing code
- Repair, enhance, and maintain software components
- Write clean, well-tested code meeting team quality standards
- Participate in code reviews as both author and reviewer
- Learn and apply CAM and manufacturing domain concepts
- Maintain currency with modern C++ and software development best practices
- Contribute to technical documentation and maintain internal knowledge bases
- Consult with senior engineers and management on project status, technical questions, and implementation approaches
- Collaborate with experienced engineers during onboarding and ramp-up
Requirements:
- 3–5 years of professional software development experience in a production environment
- Solid proficiency in C and C++; exposure to modern standards (C++11/14/17) preferred
- Experience reading, debugging, and extending existing codebases
- Familiarity with Windows desktop application development
- Working knowledge of debugging tools and systematic software defect isolation and resolution
- Understanding of core data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design principles
- Experience with version control in a team setting
- Solid math fundamentals and willingness to engage with technical or geometric concepts
- Preferred: Experience with Win32, MFC, COM, or other Windows application frameworks
- Preferred: Exposure to C# in a mixed-language (C++/managed) application context
- Preferred: Experience or academic background in CAD, CAM, CNC machining, or manufacturing
- Preferred: Familiarity with 3D graphics concepts or APIs such as OpenGL or DirectX
- Preferred: Background or coursework in applied mathematics, linear algebra, or computational geometry
- Preferred: Experience with Perforce or other enterprise version control systems
- Preferred: Exposure to large-project build systems
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably focused in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering
- Equivalent practical experience demonstrating the required technical foundation will be considered
- Must be authorized to work and reside in the United States
