Job Description
Software Engineering Lead owning backend services, APIs, and AI systems for Firmable’s B2B sales intelligence platform. Leading two engineering pods while remaining deeply hands-on.
Responsibilities:
- Own the function responsible for backend services, RESTful APIs, and AI/LLM systems powering Firmable products
- Lead two engineering pods through their team leads while remaining approximately 80% hands-on
- Design backend and API architecture for Python services using FastAPI, Pydantic, and Logfire
- Own data modelling, schemas, access patterns, and data integrity across PostgreSQL, Snowflake, and DynamoDB
- Build and operate production AI/LLM services and agents with versioned tools, prompts, schemas, traces, and evaluations
- Develop agent runtime infrastructure including tool-calling and MCP server layers, structured-output validation, bounded agentic loops, sandboxed execution, human-in-the-loop checkpoints, and replayable traces
- Build evaluation harnesses with scorers, labelled sets, trajectory and multi-turn evaluations, LLM-as-judge calibration, CI regression suites, and drift detection
- Ensure scale and reliability for systems serving millions of API calls
- Establish observability standards including structured traces, latency percentiles, cost per request, and dashboards
- Lead and grow two pods through their leads
- Run architecture and code reviews and set standards for quality, testing, and AI-native practices
- Connect Data Platform, Application, and Product teams
- Turn early ideas into architecture decisions and working prototypes quickly
- Report to the Head of Data & Services
Requirements:
- 7–10 years of hands-on backend engineering experience
- Experience leading engineers or engineering leads
- 3+ years of hands-on Python experience
- Experience building and operating large-scale production systems serving millions of API calls
- Expert Python with deep production experience in FastAPI
- Production experience shipping AI/LLM services, APIs, and agents
- Experience establishing evaluations for AI/LLM systems
- Experience building tool-calling frameworks, MCP servers, and evaluation/test harnesses
- Hands-on data modelling across SQL and NoSQL
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful services at scale
- Experience shipping with agentic IDEs such as Claude Code or Cursor
- Ability to lead from architecture through reference implementation and team adoption
- Experience with Python services, Pydantic, PostgreSQL, Snowflake, DynamoDB, and RESTful APIs
- Familiarity with idempotency, caching, rate limits, cost ceilings, circuit breakers, bounded retries, and graceful degradation
- Highly valued: Braintrust, Inspect AI, Promptfoo, Logfire, OpenTelemetry, Claude Agent SDK, Pydantic AI, LangGraph, MCP, AWS/GCP, B2B data, entity resolution, enrichment pipelines, Snowflake, and startup/scaleup experience
- Must already work in an AI-native development environment using agentic development, AI-driven test generation, automated review pipelines, and evals/traces
