Job Description
Staff Accountant supporting a real estate investment company’s US GAAP financial operations. Preparing property financial statements, reconciliations, close activities, budgets, and forecasts for multiple properties.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for multiple real estate properties
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and reconcile accounts
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
- Assist in preparing annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, including variance analysis and reporting
- Track and report property-related expenses, capital expenditures, rent collections, and tenant deposits
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and financial reports
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment posting, and vendor management
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, internal policies, and procedures
- Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and providing necessary information
- Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes and improve financial controls
- Support the company’s financial operations and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements:
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate, property management, or investment firms
- Proficiency in real estate accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, or RealPage
- Proficiency with generative AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
- Understanding of real estate accounting
- English proficiency sufficient for US-based client work and US timezone collaboration
- Ability to work Mondays–Fridays, 8:00am–5:00pm PST
- CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred
- Big 4 accounting firm experience is a plus
- Comfort working as an independent contractor
