Job Description

Staff Accountant supporting a real estate investment company’s US GAAP financial operations. Preparing property financial statements, reconciliations, close activities, budgets, and forecasts for multiple properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for multiple real estate properties
  • Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and reconcile accounts
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and quarterly forecasts, including variance analysis and reporting
  • Track and report property-related expenses, capital expenditures, rent collections, and tenant deposits
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and financial reports
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment posting, and vendor management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, internal policies, and procedures
  • Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and providing necessary information
  • Identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes and improve financial controls
  • Support the company’s financial operations and continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements:

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate, property management, or investment firms
  • Proficiency in real estate accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, or RealPage
  • Proficiency with generative AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Understanding of US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
  • Understanding of real estate accounting
  • English proficiency sufficient for US-based client work and US timezone collaboration
  • Ability to work Mondays–Fridays, 8:00am–5:00pm PST
  • CPA or equivalent certification strongly preferred
  • Big 4 accounting firm experience is a plus
  • Comfort working as an independent contractor
  • Contractor responsibility for own equipment, taxes, and benefits
